The EMBL Insight Lecture 2011 “Chemistry and Biology – Strong allies in the fight against cancer” was presented by Dr. Maja Köhn who is leading a research group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. Maja Köhn and her research group are working to design molecules that inhibit proteins involved in disease mechanisms. During the EMBL Insight Lecture 2011 she illustrated how her lab investigates the role of phosphatases in cancer metastasis and demonstrated how inhibitors of phosphatases can be designed by combining molecular biology, biochemistry and synthetic chemistry approaches.
